About the Project
The CFF team is currently working with the broiler chicken farm operator, ProTen, to help them plant 200Ha of native biodiverse trees at their poultry farm in Southern NSW.
Aims
The sustainability of operations is a core value for ProTen. By planting a diverse mix of native vegetation across the property, this project will help ProTen meet its Environmental Social and Governance targets as well as enhance local biodiversity.
To meet ProTen’s corporate sustainability objectives, a biodiverse species mix was sourced from local nurseries and was planted along the landscape contours to mimic the natural environment. This planting design aims to create a desirable habitat for existing wildlife. The plantings were a combination of seedlings and direct seed to provide a layered canopy.
CFF worked with ProTen and local foresters Cassinia Environmental so the planting design strategically links existing remnant vegetation while mitigating fire risk to the operational areas of the property by incorporating planting buffer zones.
Lessons Learned so Far
What's Next?
Now that the trees have been established, we are currently coordinating monitoring and survival counts to prepare for the projects first Offset Report. As the project was registered in 2022 the first Offset Report and independent Audit are due by 2027.
