Baselining is underway at Carbon Farming Foundation’s soil carbon project in the low-rainfall Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.
Carbon Farming Foundation has partnered with Carbon West and FarmLab to bring forth an awesome tree and soil carbon project, at our demonstration property, Weelhamby, in Perenjori, WA.
Carbon West has taken on the soil carbon project side of the operation, with FarmLab providing remote support to get the mapping sorted, while CFF tackles the tree carbon project management.
The Carbon West team have been full-steam ahead baselining soil organic carbon stocks in preparation for 2022’s planting season. They are currently working their way through 356 samples across the 3200-hectare soil carbon project on the 5000-hectare property.
The hard Perenjori ground is a challenge for sampling, but with good land management and increasing soil health as well as soil carbon growth through the project, sampling the soil will only get easier from here!
Weelhamby is shaping up to provide integral information about how best to strategically integrate soil and tree carbon projects onto one property.
Keep an eye out for more updates to come!
