Meet the CFF Team – Liz Mair

Currently undertaking a Masters in Remote Sensing, Liz has a long list of qualifications behind her!

This includes a GradCert in Intelligence & Analytics, BSc GIS (Hons), BSocSc Geography AdvDip in Environmental Management & a Dip in Business/Commerce. It’s safe to say studying is her favourite pastime!

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

My dog Winston is always keen for a walk first thing in the morning! It’s a good excuse to head to the beach or a trail before work.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A park ranger at the Mount Bartle Frere National Park. Didn’t quite happen, but I did work with the Dhimurru Rangers in North-East Arnhem Land for a couple of months.

If you were a tree, what tree would you be and why?

Oooo how can I pick?! Probably a coastal Banksia. Banksia prionotes have bright candle flowers that let you know spring is here!

When you’re not adjusting carbon estimation area boundaries, what do you enjoy doing?

As the newest recruit to the CFF’s Margaret River office, I’ve only just moved here. I enjoy hiking, cycling, and camping around the region. I hope to join the local fire & rescue service and find a replacement surf life-saving club too!

David Attenborough’s Blue Planet or Planet Earth?

Blue Planet. David definitely encouraged my focus on marine sciences at the start of my geospatial career (under ice mapping, seabed mapping…). I have only recently swapped to terrestrial applications in the past few years.
